What if God canceled the apocalypse
And we are supposed to decide
How the world will go on
What if we’re the ones
Who are to decide what world we will create
For ourselves and the future
Avenging those who died
Either for the cause
or whose deaths incited the cause
What if instead of the apocalypse
This is the endgame
This is what the world was working toward
One final push
To restart and make it new
Life may be hell
The world may be broken
But the world is full of people
Who are pouring their heart out
To make the world a better place
And maybe that’s what changed God’s mind
And he turned to his angels and said
“Cancel the apocalypse,
I want them to go on loving
And finish what they started.”
I may not be much
I’m just a writer hoping to do my part
And write it all down
Be a record of how it all goes down
But I know that somehow
The flames that burn will be enough to cleanse
And the tears that run will be baptismal water
And the earth will convene with the wind
And instead of reverting to the way that things were
We will finally have the world that we wanted to make
